What is Your Calling?

Jesus taught that your highest priority must be your relationship with Him. If anything detracts you from that relationship, that activity is not from God. God will not ask you to do something that hinders your relationship with Christ. - Henry Blackaby

During the month of January, I’m focusing on the first of the Ten Commandments.  From Exodus 20:3, God says, “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.”  In his 2012 book The Ten Commandments, Arthur Pink points out that this “requires that we have a love for Him stronger than all other affections, that we take Him for our highest portion, that we serve and obey Him supremely…”  Pink goes on to say, “The great sins forbidden by this Commandment are first, willful ignorance of God and His will through despising those means by which we may acquaint ourselves with Him.”

So, if we recognize that there is only one God and know this Commandment is the focal point for our life, how can we demonstrate our commitment, faithfulness, and complete love for Him?  Fortunately, Henry and Norman Blackaby paint a picture for us to discover our calling–our place in God’s eternal purpose in their 2007 book, Called and Accountable.
