Learning to Lead Like Jesus

Today is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent (Latin for fortieth)—a solemn religious observance in the Christian liturgical calendar that ends approximately six weeks (or 40 days) later on Holy Thursday.  The purpose of Lent is to prepare believers for Easter through prayer, repentance of sins, offerings, and denial of ego. It is observed by a number of Christian religions, including Lutheran, Methodist, Roman Catholic, and a few Baptist churches like mine!

As we start the season, I thought it was appropriate to turn to Boyd Bailey’s Learning to Lead Like Jesus: 11 Principles to Help You Serve, Inspire, and Equip Others.  Bailey’s book was advertised on my daily Lead Like Jesus Devotional last year.  After reading the book, I subscribed to Bailey’s Daily Wisdom Hunters Devotional.

Cheryl Bachelder, Former CEO of Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and author of Dare to Serve calls Boyd Bailey the kind of leader who is “courageous enough to take the people to a daring destination, yet humble enough to selflessly serve others on the journey.” In Learning to Lead Like Jesus, Boyd explores eleven character traits that make Jesus the gold standard for servant leadership, starting with humility.
