4 Leadership Jewels (C.A.R.E.) from My Wife, Jennifer Continued

Commitment

Jennifer demonstrates commitment in all that she does.  Whether it’s at home with the kids, helping live out our family mission (see November 27 blog post)—to strike a balance of faith, family, and fun—with the school PTA, with various kids’ activities at church, or teaching others about volleyball…Jennifer meets her commitments.  I think she’d point to the modeling she watched at from her parent’s commitment to their family, church, and community…

Achievement

Jennifer has the ability to get things done.  She gets results.  I’ve talked about that before…but it’s difficult to be a leader with relationships alone…you have to produce results.  Some of Jennifer’s recent accomplishments include:

  • Designing, developing, and delivering a program for our church middle school students on Sunday nights.  Jennifer has a unique gift of bringing fun to kids’ activities…and this particular effort allows her to use her strengths.  She also brings those strengths to our weekly Sunday School class, where she and I partner to teach 4th & 5th grade students.
  • Ensuring good prizes for our elementary school fair…which required her to manage a budget, organize distribution among several booths, and follow-up with fellow volunteers to make sure they had what they needed.  She also incorporated lessons learned from past school fairs to make improvements this year.
  • Maintaining regular time with God and fellow Christian ladies through her weekly Bible Study Fellowship, a rigorous study program.
  • Designing, developing, and delivering a weekly volleyball training program for middle school girls.

Resilience

Did I mention that Jennifer had significant knee surgery on December 5th?  Many of the aforementioned accomplishments are all things she has done or continued since that time.  Wow…that’s resilience!  Many scholars and writers have recently recognized that resilience—the ability to bounce back, cope, renew, and revitalize—is a key to success for today’s leaders.  Resilience can be described as the ability to keep going when circumstances are tough…and I’ve definitely seen that from Jennifer over the past couple of months…

Excellence

Jennifer not only gets results…she gets things done well.  People around her recognize her excellence…in her attitude, in her abilities, and in her achievements.  Now, that’s triple-A excellence—and “out of this world” leadership!  As Proverbs 31:10 notes, “An excellent wife who can find?  She is far more precious than jewels.”  I’m thrilled that I found an excellent wife, who provides me with a variety of “leadership jewels.”

Thank you, Jennifer…and Happy Birthday!

May you, my reader, strive for these qualities too:  Commitment, Achievement, Resilience, and Excellence…as you shoot for the stars today and beyond…
