A Life-or-Death Decision

Whether you choose to travel the way of wisdom or the way of folly is literally a life-or-death decision.

This month’s focus comes from A life-changing encounter with God’s Word from the book of Proverbs (the NavPress LifeChange Series).  Life and death are a major theme in the book of Proverbs. The words “life” and “live” occur about 56 times, while the words “death” and “die” are used around 20 times.

For us, when we say that something is “a matter of life and death,” we mean that it matters above all else.

9 Things a Leader Must Do

For yesterday’s “Celebrate Your Mirror” Day, I was reminded of my very first Blog Post on “Your Most Powerful Leadership Tool.”

One of my core values is Improvement—to get better over time, so using my most powerful leadership tool, I’m constantly looking for ways to improve as a leader.

Last year, I read Dr. Henry Cloud’s 9 Things a Leader Must Do: How to Go to the Next Level—And Take Others With You.  In the book, Cloud explores what good leaders have in common.  In considering good leaders, he was struck by the similar themes that kept coming up.  In fact, in his book, he calls these “Déjà vu Leaders”, noting these three realizations:

  1. Realization number one: The answer to “Who is this person?” was not a person at all. It was a way of behaving.
  2. Realization number two: People who found what they were looking for in life seemed to do a certain set of things in common.
  3. Realization number three: If you were not born with these patterns for leadership in place, you can learn them.
