As we come to a close on this month’s focus of the Seventh Commandment: “You shall not commit adultery”, I’d like to finish with a summary of Gary Thomas’ book entitled Sacred Marriage. Thomas points out that we are called to holiness more than happiness.
In fact, he describes his book as a way to look at how can use the challenges, joys, struggles, and celebrations of marriage to draw closer to God and to grow in Christian character. Have you experienced that? I know in my 20-year marriage that I have!
Thomas asks a powerful question, “What if God designed marriage to make us holy more than to make us happy?”
