Seven Last Words

As we consider what Proverbs says about Proper Speech this month, we should focus on the words of Jesus Christ.  Around Easter-time each year, we spend a lot of time studying the last sentences, or phrases, or sayings, uttered by Jesus as he hung on the cross on Good Friday.

It’s been more than six months since Easter, when I took the opportunity to read James Martin’s Seven Last Words:  An Invitation to a Deeper Friendship with Jesus.

Martin explains that one reason God became human is so we could begin to understand God. God comes to us in the most familiar and accessible way possible—as one of us—to help us enter into a deeper relationship with Him.  Good Friday offers an important entrée into His life. Through Jesus Christ’s Seven Last Words, we are invited to come to know Him more deeply.
